Last year, 350 people attended and many more contributed. We could not have done it without your support. We donated $40,000 to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in the name of Ashley Faye Fraiman. Ashley succumbed to a debilitating disease several years ago and the money we raise goes to support the Palliative Care unit at CHOP.
Palliative care enhances the quality of life for ill and dying children and their families, and allows them to make the most of the time they have together. The money donated the last 2 years has helped the Palliative team at CHOP offer specialized care to gravely ill children and their families that ensured them as much comfort as is possible, guidance, both physical and emotional, at a time that is one of life’s most difficult.
Some examples of palliative care is treatment designed to reduce suffering and improve the quality of life remaining for the children and their families, helping families prepare for the possibility of their child’s death, and empowering them with whatever support needed to make important and often very difficult, decisions about their child’s care. Coordination of care involving multiple sub-specialists and 24 hour access every day of the year are also specialized services given by the palliative care team at CHOP.
Over the past three years, more than 200 children and families have benefited from these services. This support is often not reimbursed by insurance companies and is only possible by donations such as Ashley’s Angels and other private gifts.
